UX/UI Design at Nelnet.

We are looking for a well-rounded UX/UI designer to join our team. 

The ideal candidate should have an eye for clean design, possess superior UI design skills and be able to translate high-level requirements into interaction flows and artifacts, and transform them into beautiful, intuitive, and functional user interfaces while always keeping real users in mind.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in production and ownership of UI standards including navigation elements, templates, graphics and icons
  • Define goals and requirements in collaboration with product owners and stakeholders
  • Work effectively with cross-functional teams to ensure that designs are successfully created and implemented to achieve the user goals
  • Ensure continuous and collaborative communication between design, architecture and development teams to ensure crisp integration of front-end design to back-end functionality
  • Create and evaluate interaction models, user task flows, screen designs, and UI details that promote ease of use and optimize the user experience
  • Create user flows, wireframes, prototypes, high fidelity mockups, and detailed UI and visual design specifications for web and mobile
  • Present design work to the product team, engineering team, and business stakeholders for review and feedback

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s degree in User Experience, Graphic Design, Human-Computer Interaction or related field preferred, or equivalent experience.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience designing business enterprise web applications or new software products a plus
  • Experience of working in an Agile/Scrum development environment and working within sprint teams
  • Basic knowledge of HTML, CSS, React, Bootstrap, and/or other common UI frameworks, so you have an understanding of what is realistic and can collaborate with developers
  • 3+ years of experience as a UX/Interaction designer, or related experience

COMPETENCIES – SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES:

  • Strong portfolio featuring design work that showcases visual and interaction design
  • Experience with Sketch, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and XD
  • Sound design fundamentals: color theory, visual hierarchy, typography and iconography
  • Comfortable designing responsive experiences from mobile, tablet and desktop
  • Expert knowledge of interface and interaction design
  • Experience and knowledge of UX best practices
  • Act as a continuous learner who actively seeks out and gives feedback to improve the experience
  • Flexibility, curiosity and ability to embrace complex design problems
  • Ability to present work with confidence to a variety of audiences and make design decisions based on research
  • Proven experience developing UI for commercial web based software application or a website
  • Prototyping, wireframes, storyboards, and mock-ups
  • Ability to liaise with key stakeholders and users
  • Understanding of accessibility standards and how to implement them
